POCO is rebranding the Redmi 12 5G just days after it was released. Why?

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC debuted globally in India with the Redmi 12 5G two days ago. With this SoC, phone makers can make cheaper 5G smartphones. POCO is also launching the M6 Pro 5G in India this week for more SoC possibilities. We wouldn’t blame you if the device looked familiar. Because the POCO M6 Pro 5G is a Redmi 12 5G rebrand.

POCO India is teasing the August 5, 2023 M6 Pro 5G launch. According to MIUI code, the Redmi 12 5G shares the codename “sky” with other rebrands including the Redmi Note 12R and POCO M6 Pro 5G. Devices with shared codenames have most specifications but may differ regionally. These changes are usually aesthetic but can sometimes involve minor specs and storage and memory configurations.

POCO’s sub-brand continuously follows this rebranding technique. It benefits customers because things are sold online solely and are cheaper. Pricing of the POCO M6 Pro 5G and its impact on Redmi 12 5G sales are unknown.

POCO India’s national head Himanshu Tandon also announced a partnership with Reliance Jio for the POCO M6 Pro 5G. The release did not provide additional information about this relationship, so we must wait for the product to appear. The Redmi 12 5G does not collaborate, but it works well across Indian 5G operators.
