Do photos retain their identity after adding music? It’s unclear. Instagram announced today that users can add music to photo carousels to show off their musical preferences.
The company worked with pop artist Olivia Rodrigo, who posted a photo carousel and her new tune “bad idea right?” on her account.
The new tool follows Instagram Notes’ June release of a means to post music clips.
Instagram is also allowing more individuals to collaborate on posts and reels today. Users can now invite three pals as co-authors, the business stated. The post or Reel with several collaborators will reach their audiences, it added. The social network debuted “Collabs” in 2021 after a small global test.The social network also revised its 2021 “Add Yours” sticker tool to prompt users to join a challenge or hashtag.
Creators can highlight fan Reels with this. Other users can view those Reels with a “Creator pick” tag when they tap the creator’s “Add Yours” stickers. The “Add Yours” page also says, “Create a Reel with this prompt for a chance to be chosen as a creator pick.”
The business says creators may pick up 10 Reels for that sticker. Creators will notify users whose posts are selected.Meta is attempting numerous methods to increase Reels engagement. In the company’s Q2 2023 earnings call last month, Mark Zuckerberg revealed reels have reached 200 billion daily plays and crossed $10 billion in revenue.
The company also wants to change Instagram media consumption. The social network prioritized video last year. In June, it said “Video posts are now shared as Reels.” Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri said in a video Reel that “We’re going to continue to support photos” after outcry from Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
