Twitter has hinted that it may sue Meta over Threads.

As a result of a letter that was written to the CEO of Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg, by Twitter’s lawyer Alex Spiro, Twitter is threatening to take legal action against Meta Platforms over its new Threads platform.

Spiro said in the letter that Twitter plans to strictly protect its intellectual property rights and asks that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly private material. Twitter also demands that Meta take urgent steps to stop using any other highly confidential information.

The social media company Meta launched Threads on Wednesday in an effort to compete with Twitter, which is owned by Elon Musk, by taking advantage of the billions of users that Instagram has.
In the meanwhile, analysts believe that the connections that Threads has with Instagram may provide it with an existing user base and advertising infrastructure. This could result in a loss of revenue for Twitter at a time when its new chief executive officer is working to turn around the company’s faltering business.

Even though Threads is a stand-alone application, users can log in with their Instagram credentials and follow the same profiles as they do on Instagram. This might make using Threads an easy addition to the routines of Instagram’s more than 2 billion monthly active users. Threads was initially released as a standalone app.

“Investors can’t help but be a little excited about the prospect that Meta really has a ‘Twitter-Killer,'” said Danni Hewson, head of financial analysis at investment company AJ Bell. “Investors can’t help but be a little excited about the prospect that Meta really has a ‘Twitter-Killer,'” she said.

The introduction of Threads was seen by some as an opportunity to develop a version of Twitter that is less toxic than it now is.

The app, which functions very similarly to Twitter, includes brief text updates that users can like, re-post, and reply to. However, unlike Twitter, the app does not contain any direct messaging options. A post can be up to 500 characters long, and it can include links, photographs, and videos that are up to five minutes long, as stated in a blog post on the Meta website.

According to the blog post, it may be downloaded from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store in more than one hundred different countries.
